The gigabit ethernet specialist Force10 Networks has been doing business in Indonesia since mid 2006. Without much hype, they managed to fetch major customers and stole some market share from network giants. Force10 Networks is the maker of switches and routers designed specially for the high-speed network known as Gigabit Ethernet. The company claimed to be the first to manufacture 10 Gigabit Ethernet appliances. Force10 Networks has significant presence in US, UK, Netherlands, Japan, China and Korea.

But not Indonesia. The name Force10 Networks didn’t exist in analyst report until latest 2006 LAN market report. Force10 emerged from nowhere and surprised big players. Some accused there has been a parallel import -a legal act of importing product without the permission of the owner/manufacturer- shipped by local system integrators just to win a project by offering competitive price.

And it’s much easy to offer such price, by using an unknown brand rather than big brands, especially if network appliances are just small parts of the whole project. Well, parallel import or not, the fact is that Force10 has managed to win major customers, including Directorate of Taxation, Ministry of Finance. This will make Force10 entry to government sector easier.

Force10 Network has two local partners: Sansaine Exindo and Citrathirza Astarijaya. The company also has opened a sales support office in Jakarta but so far all marketing activites are still coordinated from regional office.
