Dalam rangka menyehatkan kinerja keuangan perusahaan negara dan juga bisa menambah pemasukan Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara (APBN), pemerintah akan melakukan privatisasi terhadap Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN).
Rencananya ditahun 2008 nanti pemerintah akan melakukan penawaran saham perdana kepada publik (initial public offering/ IPO) atas kepemilikan sahamnya di BUMN-BUMN tersebut.
